The 5th annual TUBACHRISTMAS in Ames is scheduled to be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at noon (12:00 pm) at the
First United Methodist Church (516 Kellogg Avenue).
Plenty of parking is available.
Admission is free and the concert is "family friendly."
It's like a Messiah sing-a-long for low brass players. Walk-in rehearsal, have lunch, then play a concert. No advance registration, just show up. And bring your friends and family to enjoy the show.
Only tubas, euphoniums, baritones and sousaphones allowed. Any skill or experience level is welcome. Please wear bright and festive clothing, and adorn your instrument for the event (garland, holiday lights, ornaments, bows, stockings, reindeer antlers – you get the idea).
For music, we use the Carols for a Merry TUBACHRISTMAS book. These are available at the event, or if you'd prefer not to sight-read, you can purchase one in advance.
Registration will be at the Church 9:00 - 10:00 am.
Rehearsal will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 am.
The concert begins at noon (12:00 pm).
There will be snacks available for everyone at 11:00 am. Please plan to have lunch AFTER the performance (should end around 12:45 pm).
Please bring a music stand, dress festively, and decorate your tuba!
Registration requires a tax-deductible contribution of $10. All registrants will receive a 41st anniversary TUBACHRISTMAS 2014 commemorative button.
There will be special recognition for the youngest and oldest musicians, horn decoration, and farthest distance travelled. In 2013, we had 80 musicians participate – let's have more this year! There is nothing better than the rich and glorious sound of a large tuba/euphonium choir!
Music is available for purchase at the event. Bass clef and treble clef books are $20 each. A "large print" book (bass clef only) is $25. These books are used at TUBACHRISTMAS events around the world. If you'd like to have this music in advance, please contact Mike Golemo, TUBACHRISTMAS coordinator & conductor, at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 515.292.0685. Mike is the Director of Bands at Iowa State University.
A limited number of TUBACHRISTMAS hats, headbands, and scarves will be for sale at the event. If you would like to purchase one of these in advance, please contact Mike Golemo. Hats and scarves are $15 each and headbands are $10. All are available in either red, green, or blue, but there will be a limited number. Reserve yours early!
There is no need to register in advance, but it would help if you could print out the attached registration form, and bring it with you to save time on Saturday morning.
