What is TUBACHRISTMAS?

It's like a Messiah sing-a-long for low brass players. Walk-in for rehearsal then play a concert. No advance registration, just show up. And bring your friends and family to enjoy the show.

Only tubas, euphoniums, baritones and sousaphones allowed. Any skill or experience level is welcome. Please wear bright and festive clothing, and adorn your instrument for the event (garland, holiday lights, ornaments, bows, stockings, reindeer antlers – you get the idea).

For music, we use the Carols for a Merry TUBACHRISTMAS book. These are available at the event, or if you'd prefer not to sight-read, you can purchase one in advance.

There will be prizes for the most decorated instruments, the oldest and youngest participants, and the farthest distance traveled to the event.

Information for Musicians

Players in the concert can register between 9:00 - 9:45 am. Please enter from the West side of the building.
Rehearsal will be held from 9:45 - 10:30 am.
The concert begin at 11:00 am.

Please bring a music stand, dress festively, and decorate your tuba!

Registration requires a tax-deductible contribution of $10. All registrants will receive a 46th anniversary TUBACHRISTMAS 2019 commemorative button.

There will be special recognition for the youngest and oldest musicians, horn decoration, and farthest distance travelled. In 2018, we had 96 musicians participate – let's have more this year! There is nothing better than the rich and glorious sound of a large tuba/euphonium choir!

Music is available for purchase at the event. Bass clef and treble clef "large print" books are $25 each. If you'd like to have this music in advance, please contact Mike Golemo, TUBACHRISTMAS coordinator & conductor, at mgolemo@mchsi.com or at 515.291.9341. Mike is the Director of Bands at Iowa State University.

A limited number of TUBACHRISTMAS hats and scarves will be for sale for $15 at the event. We also have a limited number of headbands for sale at $10. If you would like to purchase one of these in advance, please contact Mike Golemo. All are available in either red, green, or blue, but there will be a limited number. Reserve yours early!

There is no need to register in advance, but it would help if you could print out the attached registration form, and bring it with you to save time on Saturday morning.
