2015 Event Information

The 6th annual TUBACHRISTMAS in Ames is scheduled to be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 1:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church (516 Kellogg Avenue).
Plenty of parking is available.
Admission is free and the concert is "family friendly."

It's like a Messiah sing-a-long for low brass players. Walk-in rehearsal, have lunch, then play a concert. No advance registration, just show up. And bring your friends and family to enjoy the show.

Only tubas, euphoniums, baritones and sousaphones allowed. Any skill or experience level is welcome. Please wear bright and festive clothing, and adorn your instrument for the event (garland, holiday lights, ornaments, bows, stockings, reindeer antlers – you get the idea).

For music, we use the Carols for a Merry TUBACHRISTMAS book. These are available at the event, or if you'd prefer not to sight-read, you can purchase one in advance.

Information for Musicians

Registration will be at the Church 10:15 - 11:00 am.
Rehearsal will be held from 11:00 - noon.
The concert begins at 1:30 pm.

Please bring a music stand, dress festively, and decorate your tuba!

Registration requires a tax-deductible contribution of $10. All registrants will receive a 42nd anniversary TUBACHRISTMAS 2015 commemorative button.

SPECIAL FOR 2015 -- LUNCH AND PIES The members of First Church will be selling a slice of home-made pie and coffee for $2 from 11 am to 1:30 pm and then resume from 2:30 pm till the pie is gone! Additionally, they will sack bag lunches available for the musicians that will include a ham or turkey sandwich and a bag of chips and a bottle of water for $3. It would be helpful for the church members to know approximately how many to prepare. So, if you are interested in this $3 lunch, please email mgolemo@mchsi.com and reserve your lunch.

There will be special recognition for the youngest and oldest musicians, horn decoration, and farthest distance travelled. In 2014, we had 98 musicians participate – let's have more this year! There is nothing better than the rich and glorious sound of a large tuba/euphonium choir!

Music is available for purchase at the event. Bass clef and treble clef books are $20 each. A "large print" book is $25. These books are used at TUBACHRISTMAS events around the world. If you'd like to have this music in advance, please contact Mike Golemo, TUBACHRISTMAS coordinator & conductor, at mgolemo@mchsi.com or at 515.292.0685. Mike is the Director of Bands at Iowa State University.

A limited number of TUBACHRISTMAS hats and scarves will be for sale for $15 at the event. If you would like to purchase one of these in advance, please contact Mike Golemo. All are available in either red, green, or blue, but there will be a limited number. Reserve yours early!

Prices for music and clothing may vary depending on inventory from previous years and current national prices.

There is no need to register in advance, but it would help if you could print out the attached registration form, and bring it with you to save time on Saturday morning.
